GASSY THE COW

This book is about a happy go lucky cow who love to eat but it causes him to fart.
Gassy thinks the reason for this is because he's lactose intolerant.
It is a great attention grabber for children 2 to 12 years of age.
The Wall Street Journal ran an article on a trend to
get boys to read more. It seems gross things and matters of bodily
functions are popular with boys. So I guess this book is aimed
at that demographic.
We meet Gassy (real name or nickname, we don't know) on a farm
where Gassy lives and has found a choice place for forage. Of
course this is Gassy's secret (as well as his somewhat undoing).
The lush grass gives Gassy gas. Gassy believes he is lactose
intolerant (you'll have to think about that to get the irony).
Along comes Mona, who is a stunning she-cow (girl heifer?).
She turns the "boy heifers'" heads. Gassy is one of
those "boy heifers" whose head is turned. But Gassy
has that problem (and the clichés used to describe this breaking
of wind will delight you if you are a boy; I liked "his
butt perfume was too strong"). And that is a turn-off to
Mona who prefers the less aromatic Bruno for a companion.
But Gassy has an idea. It might mean giving up exclusive rights
to prime turf, but Mona is worth it. So Gassy invites Bruno to
follow him. Excuse me, would youfollow a "boy heifer" who
has a known anal aroma problem?
One quibble I have is with the book using the term "boy
heifer." I guess "steer" wouldn't be correct (that
is a bull that has lost his manhood). But growing up on Wisconsin
farms the term "heifer" is only used in regard to female
cows that have not yet given birth.
